Butterflies are known to be a representation of change and growth. The metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly is integral to the insect's life cycle. A chrysalis protects a caterpillar as it reforms itself into a beautiful butterfly. In "Metamorphosis", the chrysalis appears to be opaque and lifeless. However, the moment the light is turned on, the life of a newly formed butterfly is revealed.
